East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust
Become A Member!
Some time ago members were invited to attend a consultation meeting to discuss the pros and cons as to whether we, our local health authority should become a Trust or not. The advantages to this appears to be that we will have a greater say in how services are managed and a more rapid response to complaints.
In Touch is the first edition of the members' newsletter. As a member you have the opportunity to stand for election as a Governor. The role of Governor will be to present perspectives of members on the Council of Governors, working alongside the Board of Directors to help shape services to the needs of the East Sussex community in the future.
Each edition of the members' newsletter will bring you news about your local hospital services. In the current edition infection control is highlighted together with the opening of a new state-of-the-arts minimally invasive operating theatre - the first of its kind in Europe.
Membership is free and already stands at 2,100.
Here is the opportunity for you to have your say and make a difference.

Growing Older, Being Heard
Draft Findings Report
This report presents draft findings of a research project undertaken with mature citizens in the ‘Meridian’ area, of Newhaven, Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs, East Saltdean and rural parishes between Newhaven and Lewes.
The project is funded by the Brighton and Sussex Community Knowledge Exchange (BSCKE), based at the University of Brighton, with additional support from the SOCCUL Junior Research Associate Bursary at the University of Sussex. Its Steering Group includes Dana Cohen, BSCKE Manager, and Vicky Smith, Older People’s Involvement Manager at East Sussex County Council.
The Project
The Meridian Mature Citizen’s Forum is carrying out research to explore the lives, priorities and experiences of consultation of older people in the ‘Meridian’ area (Newhaven, Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs and East Saltdean). The work is being carried out in partnership with the Universities of Sussex and Brighton.
This document outlines the findings from the first phase of the project, in which 61 older people in the Meridian area were interviewed by ‘teams’ comprising a student from the University of Sussex and a Forum member. A second phase will involve consultation with key policy makers and promotion of the findings.
